Which Upscayl guide do I need?
Start from where you are stuck. Most problems people blame on settings are GPU problems, so if an upscale fails at any stage, go to the GPU check before changing anything else.
| Where you are | Guide |
|---|---|
| Upscayl is not installed yet | Install on Windows, or use the Homebrew or Flathub command on the home page |
| It installed but shows a GPU Error | Check your Vulkan GPU |
| Nothing has been upscaled yet | Upscale your first image |
| The result looks wrong for the picture | Choose a model and scale |
| One image worked and a folder is next | Batch upscale a folder |
| You need the file or its hash | Official downloads and SHA-256 |
What order should I follow the Upscayl guides in?
Each guide ends with a link to the next one, so you can follow them as one path from a fresh install to a finished batch.
- Install the Upscayl image upscaler on Windows: Install the Upscayl image upscaler on Windows 10 or 11 with one winget command or the official installer, then pass SmartScreen and open it from Start.
- Check your GPU before using the Upscayl image upscaler: Check whether your GPU can run the Upscayl image upscaler, read the GPU list in the Settings log, set a GPU ID and fix Vulkan errors before a batch.
- Upscale your first image with the Upscayl image upscaler: Upscale one PNG or JPG with the Upscayl image upscaler, find the output next to the original, and check it at 100% zoom before you try a batch.
- Choose an Upscayl image upscaler model and scale: The seven built-in Upscayl image upscaler models, which suit photos or drawings, which are non-commercial, and why 2x output is a downscaled 4x result.
- Batch upscale a folder with the Upscayl image upscaler: Turn on Batch Upscayl, pick a folder of PNG, JPG or WEBP files and find the results in a new upscayl_ subfolder. Test a small copy of the folder first.
Where are the official Upscayl sources?
The project documents its own requirements in the README, its troubleshooting wiki and docs.upscayl.org. Each guide here links the exact source file behind every default it states.
